Spain’s Health Techs Set Four-Day Strike to Halt Routine Diagnostics Starting Thursday

Uneven minimum-service rules protect urgent care, leaving many scheduled diagnostics at risk of postponement.

Overview

  • Técnicos Superiores Sanitarios will stop work on October 30–31 and November 3–4 across Spain, affecting laboratories, imaging, anatomopathology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy support in public and private facilities.
  • Organizers cite deteriorating conditions and unmet commitments and press for university degree recognition for Image Medical and Radiotherapy alongside better pay and career status.
  • Castilla-La Mancha has fixed minimum staffing at 25% with at least one professional per center and customary on-call coverage, while Galicia guarantees 100% for all urgent activity and sets hospital staffing at Sunday levels with priority for oncology and other preferent tests.
  • Large postponements are anticipated depending on participation and local rules; in Málaga, SIETeSS estimates roughly 30,000 tests per day could be delayed across public and private providers.
  • A national demonstration is planned in Madrid on November 3, the Vigo CHUVI radiology strike continues with about 100 studies canceled daily and support across Galicia, and organizers say the Health Ministry has not yet met with the strike committee.
