Spain’s February Auto Output Drops 11% as Export Orders Fade

Factory retooling for electrified models is curbing output, according to ANFAC.

Overview

  • Plants built 189,095 vehicles in February, taking the year-to-date total to 362,501, down 5.1% from a year earlier.
  • Exports declined 12.1% to 157,474 units, with sharp falls in France (-23.3%) and Germany (-14.1%), and ANFAC urges faster EU regulatory clarity to support demand.
  • Electrified output (BEV+PHEV) fell 20.4% to 16,318 units for an 8.6% share, while non‑plug‑in hybrids rose 11.3% to 34.1% of production.
  • Passenger car output slid 14.1% to 147,996 units, whereas commercial and industrial vehicles inched up 0.5% to 41,099.
  • S&P Global Mobility trimmed its European light‑vehicle outlook by 82,000 units for 2026 and 176,000 for 2027, citing higher energy and metals costs and elevated geopolitical risk.
