Spain’s Early-Morning Road Crashes Kill Child and Motorcyclist, Leave Baby Critical

Investigators are targeting an unlicensed driver in the Palma fatal crash.

Overview

  • An 11-year-old boy was fatally struck around 6:40 a.m. on the A-92 near Huétor Tájar, with the Guardia Civil probing how he accessed the motorway and local officials seeking his family after noting he carried no documents.
  • A vehicle left the AP-7 and overturned near L’Ampolla just before 8:00 a.m., critically injuring a baby who was airlifted to Sant Joan de Déu, while another minor and three adults were taken to hospitals in Tarragona and Tortosa in less serious condition.
  • In Palma, a 27-year-old motorcyclist died at the Son Castelló ITV roundabout after a collision in which the car’s occupants fled, and two of the four occupants later presented themselves to authorities.
  • Police say the 19-year-old who surrendered tested negative for drugs, stated he did not see the motorcyclist, and, according to case sources, did not hold a driving licence and had prior police records.
  • The two Palma suspects face accusations including omission of the duty to assist and unauthorized use of a vehicle reported as not returned to a rental firm, as searches continue for others and judicial proceedings are expected next.
