Spain’s DGT Warns of Arctic Blast Bringing Snow to Northern and Eastern Routes

AEMET expects the worst travel conditions from late Thursday into Friday morning.

Overview

  • Snow could begin Wednesday evening across parts of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with the most adverse period forecast from late November 20 to the morning of November 21.
  • Authorities flag risk for provinces in Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Navarra, the north and east of Castilla y León, and Huesca.
  • High-capacity corridors that could face disruptions include the AP-66, N-630, N-621, A-67, AP-68, AP-1 and A-15.
  • The DGT may apply heavy-vehicle limits, require winter tyres or chains, restrict speed and overtaking, and order preventive closures or mandatory diversions.
  • Operational readiness includes 32 automated truck-holding diversion sites, and drivers are urged to leave the left lane clear for snowploughs and check real-time updates via DGT’s X accounts, website and the 011 line.
