Spain’s DGT Adds 101 Traffic Examiners Across 46 Provinces to Cut Test Waits

The move targets long driving-test backlogs by expanding examiner availability to near full staffing.

Overview

  • The new civil servants come from the 2023–2024 public employment offers for the 'Tráfico' specialty created in 2017.
  • Assignments span 46 provincial headquarters, led by Barcelona (11), Madrid (10) and Illes Balears (6).
  • Regional reinforcements include two additions in the Region of Murcia and three in Galicia.
  • DGT says examiner posts are now 97% covered, raising capacity to examine more driving candidates.
  • Beyond these permanent hires, 23 interim examiners joined in 2025, with a further 17 anticipated in the coming months.
