Spain’s Butane Cylinder Price Drops to €17.11 After Five Straight Hikes

Low international raw material costs outweighed higher freight expenses under the government’s capped bimonthly pricing review.

Overview

  • The bimonthly review, overseen by the Dirección General de Política Energética y Minas, caps adjustments at ±5% and factors in raw material, freight and exchange rate costs with any excess carried over.
  • A 14.86% plunge in global butane and propane quotations offset a 30.59% rise in transportation costs to produce the net 5% price cut.
  • From July 16 consumers will pay a maximum of €17.11 per butane cylinder, according to the Boletín Oficial del Estado resolution published on July 15.
  • Spain consumes around 64.5 million bottled LPG cylinders annually, though demand has declined more than 25% since 2010.
  • The next price revision is scheduled for September following the established third-Tuesday timetable.
