Overview

  • The Programa Marco de Evaluación de la Seguridad y Tecnología de Vehículos Automatizados (Programa ES-AV) now governs tests of vehicles with SAE automation levels 2 to 5 and remote-controlled systems on public roads.
  • Testing is structured into three phases—controlled, extensive and pre-deployment—each with tailored safety protocols and documentation requirements.
  • Authorized test vehicles must carry a distinctive red sticker to signal active autonomous or remote-controlled trials to other road users.
  • The Oficina para la Facilitación de Pruebas de Vehículos Automatizados (OFVA) will serve as a single point of contact for managing test requests and overseeing trial progress.
  • Participants must submit periodic and incident reports to the DGT, which will publish basic trial information online to ensure transparency and public trust.
