Overview

  • The Ministry of Health has earmarked €10 million for a temporary “bridge plan” to support advanced ALS patients needing continuous 24-hour care.
  • ConELA, the national ALS confederation, will allocate the funds and contract San Juan de Dios, Illunion and Ayudo to staff professional caregivers.
  • Eligibility will be determined by medical teams based on patients’ reliance on ventilation or tracheotomy equipment.
  • The measure will be approved by Royal Decree at the end of June and reviewed for effectiveness in December.
  • This emergency package fills a budget gap in the October 2024 ALS law while its full implementation remains scheduled for 2026.
