Spain Tops 3 Million Foreign Social Security Affiliates as September Data Show Broad Gains

New data show regional outperformance alongside a record in foreign self-employment.

  • Spain counted 3,088,341 foreign workers in the original September series, about 7% higher than a year earlier after adding roughly 202,700 over 12 months.
  • On a calendar-adjusted basis, foreign affiliation reached 3,067,780, with 83.9% in the General Regime and women now 43.2% of the total.
  • Castilla y León ended September with 103,586 foreign affiliates after a monthly gain of 2,044, marking a 13% increase year on year.
  • Andalucía registered 354,491 foreign contributors, up 2.32% from August and 8.54% versus September 2024.
  • Foreign workers are concentrated in hospitality, agriculture and construction, origins are led by Morocco, Romania and Colombia, and self-employment set a new high at 490,717, up 6.8% year on year.
