Overview

  • Ministers plan to adopt the measure on Aug. 26, with transfers from overcapacity territories to the mainland set to begin once it is published in the state gazette, expected on Aug. 28.
  • The decree will fix each region’s ordinary reception capacity and allow territories exceeding triple that level to activate extraordinary contingency.
  • The government forecasts up to 3,975 minors could be relocated over the next year, a ceiling likely reduced by roughly 1,200 who receive asylum.
  • The state will distribute €100 million to regions, pay for all transfers, fund at least the first three months of reception, and compensate territories facing overoccupation.
  • Canary authorities report caring for about 5,017 minors after 106 arrived on Sunday, as the Balearic government rejects 49 assigned places and seeks a Supreme Court pause on the distribution.
