Spain Sheds 199,300 Jobs in August, Worst for the Month Since 2019

Seasonal expirations at summer’s end, led by education payroll cuts, drove the decline.

  • Registered unemployment rose by 21,905 to 2,426,511, the lowest August level since 2007.

  • Hiring remained heavily temporary with roughly 1.04 million contracts signed in August and about 385,000 indefinite, and the self‑employed registry (RETA) fell by 8,662 affiliates.
