Overview

  • Civil protection chief Virginia Barcones said "the end is approaching," with 18 fires still active and 17 at an operational level that threatens people and homes.
  • Crews fixed Galicia’s Larouco‑Seadur blaze of about 30,000 hectares and circumscribed Extremadura’s Jarilla fire as humidity rose and winds eased.
  • EFFIS data indicate more than 350,000 hectares burned in roughly two weeks, the bulk of Spain’s 406,000 hectares scorched this year, with the west—Galicia, Castile‑and‑León and Extremadura—hit hardest.
  • Some international reinforcements began to depart, including Italy’s Canadairs, while aerial and ground assets from nine countries remain on the lines.
  • Portugal reported the death of 45‑year‑old firefighter Daniel Esteves in Sabugal, with more than 60,000 hectares burned there this season.
