Spain Reports Q2 Rise in Gender-Based Violence Cases as Convictions Exceed 82%

Officials caution that recent data-quality changes complicate short-term comparisons.

Overview

  • National complaints increased 2.69% to 51,897 in April–June 2025, with recorded victims up 3.41% to 47,710, according to the CGPJ observatory.
  • Courts issued 16,206 sentences and 13,383 were convictions, lifting the condemnatory rate to 82.58% from 80.27% a year earlier.
  • Protection order activity edged down slightly, with 12,261 requests and 8,571 granted, maintaining a 67.7% approval rate.
  • A total of 5,549 victims declined to testify (11.63%), a figure the observatory notes may be affected by recent statistical system adjustments.
  • Castilla-La Mancha logged a 6.2% rise in complaints to 1,799 and 1,562 victims, yet its victim rate of 14.9 per 10,000 women remained below the national rate of 19.2; regional victim rates were highest in Canary Islands and Balearic Islands and lowest in Castilla y León and Galicia.
