Overview

  • The risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rate (AROPE) fell by 0.7 points in 2024 to 25.8%, its lowest level since 2014, covering 12.5 million people.
  • Severe poverty edged up to affect 4.1 million Spaniards living on under €644 per month per consumption unit.
  • State welfare transfers barred 11.1 million people from falling into poverty, without which the rate would more than double to 42.6%.
  • Vulnerable groups include 2.8 million minors at risk and 32.9% of people with disabilities facing poverty or exclusion.
