Spain Reclaims No. 1 in FIFA Rankings as Argentina Falls to Third

The November update will set seedings for the Dec. 5 World Cup draw, making today’s shift consequential.

  • France moves to No. 2 as Argentina slips to No. 3 following a qualifying defeat in Ecuador; La Tri sit second in CONMEBOL with just five goals conceded in 18 games.
  • Portugal climbs to fifth, overtaking Brazil, which fell to sixth after a 1-0 loss in Bolivia.
  • Germany drops from ninth to 12th after losing in Slovakia, while Italy re-enters the top 10 at No. 10 and Croatia rises to ninth with Morocco 11th; Slovakia is the biggest mover to 42nd.
  • November’s rankings will determine seedings for the World Cup draw in Washington on Dec. 5, with Pot 1 set for the top nine teams at that time plus hosts United States, Mexico and Canada.
