Overview
- Following the worst summer fires on record that burned over 370,000 hectares, the agriculture ministry opened a public consultation on the royal decree, which runs until October 3.
- The government plans to take the measure to Congress in October with the goal of disbursing funds to eligible farmers and ranchers before December 31, 2025.
- Direct payments will equal 20% of declared agricultural income per beneficiary, set between €1,500 and €10,000, with a €6,000 minimum for insured claimants with fire losses.
- A separate line will raise the subsidy on agrarian insurance premiums to the EU-allowed cap of 70% for policyholders in affected municipalities, applied automatically.
- Aid will be granted de oficio after cross-checks with ENESA and the Tax Agency, and will be compatible with insurance indemnities, regional measures and potential EU agricultural-reserve funding.
