Spain Opens 2026–27 Aid Applications for Students With Specific Support Needs

Higher asset thresholds expand eligibility, with Catalonia now handling its own applications.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Education, which opened applications Tuesday, requires families to file through its online portal for the NEAE grants.
  • For most regions the window stays open until 10 September, with paper filing allowed only in exceptional cases for families without reliable digital access.
  • The 2026–27 call raises the asset thresholds by about 10%, widening eligibility, and keeps a one‑off €400 payment for general school expenses.
  • The aid targets non‑university students with disability from 25%, severe behavioral or language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, or high intellectual ability, and can cover transport, meals, materials, residence, and specialized reeducation.
  • Catalonia will process its own NEAE applications for the first time after a transfer of powers, while Madrid separately opened infant‑school subsidies from 19 May to 8 June worth €177–€283 per month for about 34,000 families on a €67.3 million budget.
