Spain Mobilizes Cities and Sport for 25-N Actions Against Gender Violence

Municipal programs roll out this week, with federations and leagues staging coordinated actions on Nov. 22–23.

Overview

  • The CSD and the State Equality Secretariat launched the campaign “El deporte contra la violencia machista,” calling for banners, commemorative armbands, a minute of silence, and the #Deporte25N push across events on Nov. 22–23.
  • Burjassot’s 25‑N program, under the slogan “El amor no es la hostia,” includes a Nov. 25 manifesto reading in Plaza Emilio Castelar, participation in the Valencia march, cultural events through Nov. 28, and a Volta a Peu on Nov. 30 with free registration open until Nov. 25.
  • Olías del Rey approved an institutional declaration against gender violence with PSOE and PP votes in favor and Vox against, and its schedule features Nov. 18–25 school activities, a mindfulness session on Nov. 19, manifesto readings on Nov. 25, and a screening of the Goya-winning documentary “Semillas de Kivu” with a talk by its directors.
  • Hondarribia extends 25‑N observances across several days with theater, a women’s pala match, a concert, the Emakumeak korrika run, and a women’s chess tournament, alongside a Nov. 25 gathering and performance organized by the Bidasoa M8 feminist assembly.
  • Pontevedra paired a cross-party institutional declaration with a campaign that shifts the focus to perpetrators, displaying “12,976 maltratadores” based on 2015–2024 judicial data for Galicia, while the provincial bar detailed year-round specialized legal assistance for victims.
