Spain Mandates V-16 Emergency Beacons for Vehicles by 2026
The new regulation will replace traditional warning triangles with advanced geolocatable beacons to enhance roadside safety.
- Starting January 1, 2026, all vehicles in Spain, including those from abroad, must carry a V-16 emergency beacon.
- The V-16 emits a 360° yellow or orange light visible up to 1 kilometer, even in fog, and operates for at least 30 minutes.
- Unlike traditional warning triangles, the V-16 allows drivers to remain inside their vehicles during breakdowns or accidents, reducing risks to personal safety.
- Equipped with geolocation capabilities, the beacon transmits a vehicle's position to Spanish traffic authorities to expedite emergency response.
- Failure to comply with the regulation may result in fines ranging from €80 to €200, with the device costing approximately €40-€50.
