Spain Lowers Wildfire Alerts to 13 Severe Incidents as Evacuations Reach 35,656

Overview

  • Protección Civil reduced the number of fires at operativa 2 from fifteen to thirteen and reported one at operativa 1, with four stabilized and seven controlled.
  • A total of 35,656 people have been evacuated this summer, including 82 evacuations carried out on August 26 in Asturias and León.
  • Authorities report 50 arrests and 135 people under investigation on suspicion of deliberately causing fires.
  • The UME is working on eight fires and Ministry for Ecological Transition assets are deployed on nine, after a CECOD meeting chaired by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
  • The Garaño fire in León is in perimetration with Barrios de Luna dam under close watch, and some international crews, including German and Romanian teams, are returning home.
