Spain Finalizes V‑16 Beacon Mandate for Jan. 1 as DGT Pulls Approval for Four Models

Drivers are urged to confirm their beacon’s certificate on the DGT website before purchasing.

Overview

  • Tráfico’s connected V‑16 beacon becomes the sole legal roadside warning device on January 1, 2026, replacing triangles, and non‑connected versions will no longer be valid.
  • The DGT has withdrawn homologation for four models — Don Feliz V16IoT (PC24020028), The Boutique For Your Car V16IoT (PC25020290), Ikrea V16IoT (PC25060006) and Call SOS XL‑HZ‑001‑VC (2024060583G1).
  • Devices whose approval was withdrawn may continue to be used by those who already bought them until the end of their useful life, but they can no longer be distributed as approved products.
  • Tráfico says it has no intention to immediately fine drivers lacking the device and emergency services recommend keeping triangles as a backup when they can be placed safely.
  • Consumer group FACUA has reported Amazon, AliExpress and Leroy Merlin for selling beacons marketed as approved without clarifying they will not be valid from 2026.
