Spain Finalizes Order for 100 Airbus Helicopters Under National Helicopter Plan

The four contracts execute a fleet standardization strategy across all services.

Overview

  • DGAM formalized four contracts for 13 H135, 50 H145M, 6 H175M and 31 NH90 helicopters for the Army, Air and Space Force, and Navy, marking its largest helicopter procurement to date.
  • The package is reported at about €4.5 billion with roughly €4 billion going to Airbus, following budget ceilings approved by Spain’s Council of Ministers.
  • Deliveries are scheduled to start with H135s in 2027, followed by H145M and H175M from 2028, and NH90 from 2031.
  • The helicopters cover training, light attack, transport, observation and special operations, with H145M using the HForce system to complement Tiger, H175M replacing Wing 48’s Super Puma/Cougar, and NH90 completing the Navy’s amphibious fleet.
  • Airbus plans to expand its Albacete site with a military customization center and an H145M international training hub, projecting more than 300 direct jobs and new digital support capabilities.
