Overview

  • The Council of Ministers approved a decree defining each region’s ordinary capacity to receive unaccompanied minors using criteria such as population, unemployment, income, available facilities and prior effort.
  • La Moncloa signals it will step up derivations from the Canary Islands starting in September to relieve overcrowded reception centers.
  • Territorial Policy minister Ángel Víctor Torres said security forces would intervene if any autonomy refuses transfers, and minister Félix Bolaños warned of legal consequences for noncompliance.
  • PP-governed regions escalate resistance with new appeals to the Supreme and Constitutional courts; Madrid calls the plan arbitrary and opaque, Andalusia alleges inequity, and the Balearic president seeks contingency status that government officials say the islands do not meet.
  • A provisional July list assigns more than 16,000 minors across communities, with Andalusia (677), Madrid (647) and Valencia (571) highest, while Catalonia and the Basque Country are exempt based on past effort, and the PP deems the €100 million support fund insufficient.
