Overview

  • The June 3 decree creates 50 judgeships and 42 prosecutor roles dedicated to violence against women and will become operational by the end of 2025.
  • Under the Ley Orgánica de Eficiencia del Servicio Público de Justicia, specialized courts will handle all sexual offenses against women, not just partner violence, driving an average 12.9% rise in caseloads.
  • Of the 50 judgeships, 42 are newly created and eight result from transforming existing instruction courts, increasing specialized judges by nearly 50%.
  • Regional allocations award Andalusia 10 new judgeships, Madrid six and the Valencian Community five, while Galicia’s plan to repurpose two instruction courts has drawn protests from local authorities and judicial bodies.
  • The reform also sets up three specialized sections for violence against children and adolescents in Madrid, Barcelona and Málaga to strengthen protection for minors.
