Spain Enters Late-Season Heat Surge With Highs Near 40 °C. AEMET

AEMET attributes the spike to a very warm, stable air mass over the Iberian Peninsula.

Overview

  • Official forecasts indicate several days over 35 °C in large inland areas, with thermal anomalies of 6–10 °C above normal.
  • Seville, Córdoba and Jaén are expected to top 40 °C between Wednesday and Friday, while Madrid and Zaragoza may reach 36–37 °C and southern Canary Islands around 36 °C.
  • Nights will be unusually warm, with many Mediterranean, Andalusian and Canary locations staying above 20 °C and some points in Jaén, Seville and Córdoba exceeding 25 °C.
  • A northern Atlantic front brings cloudiness and some weak rain to Galicia, the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees, with local Galicia bulletins showing mostly dry, milder days in the low to mid‑20s.
  • AEMET expects the warm pattern to persist into September 22–28 with temperatures remaining above normal and precipitation generally scarce, while Argentina reports warm, humid afternoons around 20–25 °C with isolated storms in Jujuy and a wetter, windier weekend risk in La Plata.
