Overview
- All holiday and short-term rental listings in Spain must display a valid registration code from July 1 or face removal under the new Single Tourist Rental Registry.
- Since the registry launched in January, 199,686 applications have been submitted, with 90,046 approved, 17,596 rejected and over 92,000 still under review by property registrars.
- Booking.com removed 4,093 listings—mostly in the Canary Islands—after Spain’s Consumer Affairs ministry identified adverts with missing or false licence numbers.
- Airbnb has petitioned the Madrid High Court for precautionary measures to block an injunction ordering the removal of more than 65,000 listings.
- Backed by EU Regulation 2024/1028, the registry aims to tackle fraud, ease housing shortages and manage overtourism through centralized approvals and data monitoring.
