Spain Dismantles CJNG ‘Office’ With 20 Arrests in DEA-Backed Operation

Operation Oyamel uncovered a logistics system that hid narcotics in heavy machinery to move shipments into Spain for reexport to Europe.

Overview

  • Police made arrests in Madrid, Ávila, Bilbao, Valencia and Toledo, with 15 suspects ordered into pretrial detention.
  • Those detained include two DEA-priority targets, a Spanish businessman accused of providing logistics and laundering through companies, and members linked to Italy’s Camorra.
  • Authorities seized 1,870 kilos of cocaine, 375 kilos of amphetamine, €275,000 in cash, about $15,000 in crypto, three handguns, 15 vehicles and 14 kilos of silver.
  • Drugs arrived from South America concealed in heavy industrial machinery, were stored at rural properties in the Sierra de Madrid and Ávila, and were moved domestically to Bilbao and Valencia in vehicles with hidden compartments.
  • In coordination with Dutch police, investigators intercepted a container from Costa Rica, and traced international routing via Talavera de la Reina to Italy, with a first Italy-bound shipment tied to the Amato-Pagano clan detected in September; the case is led by Spain’s Audiencia Nacional and Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor.
