Spain Dismantles CJNG Cell That Hid Drugs in Heavy Machinery, Arrests 20

A two-phase probe exposed a CJNG logistics hub that hid narcotics in industrial equipment, relying on Spanish front companies for storage and laundering.

Overview

  • Police carried out coordinated raids in Madrid, Ávila (La Adrada), Toledo (Talavera de la Reina), Bilbao and València, with 15 of the 20 detainees placed in provisional prison.
  • Seizures included 1,870 kilos of cocaine, 375 kilos of amphetamine, €275,000 in cash, about $15,000 in cryptocurrency (USDT), three handguns, 15 vehicles and 14 kilos of silver.
  • Branded Operación Oyamel, the case was run with the U.S. DEA and Dutch police, who helped intercept a container from Costa Rica carrying drugs concealed in machinery.
  • The network used rural properties for storage and coordination, moved shipments nationally from La Adrada to Bilbao and Valencia, and routed machinery via Talavera de la Reina to Italy.
  • Those held include two DEA priority targets and suspected Camorra affiliates, with proceedings led by Audiencia Nacional Court No. 2 and Spain’s Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor.
