Spain Confirms Forces and Flight Plan for Oct. 12 National Day Parade in Madrid

The Defense Ministry’s plan confirms a large-scale display with a ceremonial focus on remembrance under Law 18/1987.

  • An official Defense Ministry document tallies 3,847 personnel, 162 vehicles, 74 aircraft, 229 horses and six dogs for the Madrid parade.
  • The event will be presided over by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, starting at 11:00 at Plaza Cánovas del Castillo with an homage to the fallen and a flag raising.
  • The PAPEA parachute segment will feature sargento primero Óscar Marsal Hernández and sargento primero José Carlos González Herrera carrying a 24‑square‑meter, 15‑kilogram national ensign.
  • The route runs between the Cibeles and Neptuno fountains on the Castellana, with flyovers by fighters, refueling and transport aircraft, firefighting and rescue platforms, followed by UME, Army, Navy, Air and Space, and Guardia Civil units on the ground with historic artillery and armored vehicles.
  • A Coruña marked the run‑up with a solemn flag‑raising at O Parrote on Oct. 10, presided by General Marcial González Prada and attended by Government delegate Pedro Blanco, including a tribute to the fallen and a brief march past watched by the public.
