Overview
- Aemet forecasts highs reaching 39–40°C in parts of Andalucía this week, with Thursday set to be the hottest in Jaén, Granada, Córdoba and Seville.
- Yellow alerts are in place for the Guadiana plains, where temperatures may top 38°C, and for parts of Gran Canaria expected to reach at least 35°C.
- The warm spell is expected to be widespread and to persist into September 22–28 with minimal rainfall across much of the Peninsula.
- Meteorologists attribute the surge to a strong subtropical high bringing midsummer-like stability over Spain.
- The spike follows Spain’s warmest summer on record, with exceptionally warm Balearic Sea waters reported in July.
