Overview

• The Directorate General for the Railway Sector has adjudicated the O Porriño–Portugal border studies to a WSP Spain‑Apia and Multicriteri‑MCRIT joint venture to extend Vigo’s southern exit toward Portuguese infrastructure near Valença.
• The brief is framed within the A Coruña–Lisbon Atlantic corridor and follows commitments endorsed at the 2024 Faro summit.
• The work is split into a viability phase and a detailed informative study, after which the plan must go to public consultation and environmental impact assessment before any construction procurement.
• The contract expressly includes designing a new Tui–Valença rail viaduct of more than 4.3 km, divided between Spain (about 2.5 km) and Portugal (about 1.9 km), to replace the 1886 bridge over the Miño.
