Spain Auto Output Falls 7% Through August as Exports Drop and EV Share Rises

ANFAC calls for the Plan España Auto 2030–2035 to shore up the transition to electrified models.

Overview

  • Factories built 1,478,582 vehicles in January–August, while exports fell 10.1% to 1,271,461 units, according to ANFAC.
  • Production diverged over the summer, rising 2.2% year on year in July to 187,643 units and falling 4.2% in August to 70,344.
  • Electrified vehicles (BEV and PHEV) reached 145,096 units year to date, up 4.1% and accounting for 9.8% of output.
  • ‘Alternative’ powertrains totaled 429,914 units in the period, representing 37.9% of Spain’s vehicle production.
  • Europe remained the main export destination at around 90% of shipments, with Germany leading and Mexico posting a 3,327% August surge.
