Spain Authorizes Contracting for Two Upgraded BAM Patrol Vessels Worth €716 Million

  • The government approved the start of contracting with Navantia to design and build two offshore patrol vessels for the Spanish Navy.
  • The ships will expand the BAM class to eight units alongside Meteoro, Rayo, Relámpago, Tornado, Audaz and Furor.
  • Navantia cites upgrades including an updated combat system, next‑generation IPMS, improved communications and navigation, hardened cybersecurity and integration of unmanned vehicles.
  • Engineering will begin after contract signature, with production planned to start in the first half of 2027 at the Puerto Real yard.
  • Work will use Siemens‑based ELCANO tools and an automated flat‑block workshop now in final commissioning that will also produce blocks for the UK FSS programme.
