Overview
- The government approved a royal decree on Tuesday that commits €30 million to speed payments to victims and families of the Urda (Toledo) train collision.
- Officials divided the funds roughly equally with about €15 million set for immediate urgent aid and about €15 million reserved for advance payments to eligible claimants.
- The decree formally doubles mandatory passenger insurance (SOV) amounts so the top automatic indemnity for extremely serious permanent injuries rises to €84,141 and death advances are set at about €72,121 per person.
- New procedures will let regional government offices collect documentation, publish provisional beneficiary lists, and begin anticipatory payouts without waiting for the outcome of civil-liability investigations.
- The SOV applies automatically to passengers except those proven to have caused the crash intentionally or while intoxicated, and final legal responsibility and larger insurer payouts will be decided later through ongoing investigations and possible litigation, following the same model used after the Adamuz and Gèlida accidents.
