Overview

  • The Government of Spain authorized the transfer of more than 170,000 m³ of sand from the dredging of the Xúquer river mouth, expanding the Generalitat’s original 23,000 m³ proposal to cover La Goleta, El Brosquil and Tavernes de la Valldigna beaches.
  • The Generalitat Valenciana is finalizing an emergency contract to fund dredging operations and sediment transport, with works scheduled to begin after the peak summer tourist season.
  • Approximately 70 % of the extracted material will be redeposited to widen and protect eroded shorelines, while the remaining 30 % will be discarded following environmental characterization.
  • An Environmental Impact Declaration is being advanced in parallel to ensure the beach regeneration project meets sustainability requirements.
  • A separate €6 million emergency repair project at the port of Cullera is restoring pier operability and navigation depth using extracted sediments.
