Overview

  • The Spanish Interior Ministry has urged travellers to watch their luggage, lock suitcases, separate money from cards and guard bags and pockets in crowds.
  • The UK Foreign Office requires tourists to present photo ID when asked by police, warns that refusal can be treated as disobedience and mandates lodging providers to record passport details.
  • Under Schengen rules, passports must have been issued within the past 10 years, remain valid for at least three months after departure and be neither lost nor stolen to avoid entry refusal.
  • Holidaymakers may need to show return or onward tickets, proof of funds, travel insurance and accommodation or host details at border control and must obtain exit stamps to prevent overstays.
  • Travellers carrying €10,000 or more in cash or cheques must declare it on arrival or risk having their money seized when leaving Spain.
