- The Council of Ministers and Generalitat de Catalunya formally authorized Rodalies de Catalunya on July 29 to take over commuter and regional rail services
- The new company will have an initial capital of €2 million with a 50.1 percent stake held by Renfe Viajeros and 49.9 percent by the Generalitat
- Its nine-member board will include five appointees from the Catalan government—among them the company president—and four designated by the central government
- Rodalies de Catalunya must be registered in the commercial registry by December 31 to begin licensing, organizational planning and infrastructure preparations
