Overview
- The DGT now has 956 permanent examiners, the highest level since 2012, plus 23 interim staff and 17 more expected.
- Driving schools’ association CNAE says an optimal service needs 1,260 examiners, about 304 more than are currently in place.
- Waiting lists remain lengthy, including around 70,000 people queued for practical tests in Catalonia and roughly three months in Madrid.
- Licence applications are running about 8,000 per month above last year, adding pressure to the system.
- A 2020 EU rule cut the maximum practical tests per examiner from 16 to 12, and Catalonia has added local exam points in Garrotxa and Ripollès to ease congestion.
