Overview
- The 38-year-old, recorded as having no fixed address, took a spade from a council worker’s trolley on September 26 on St Peter’s Street in Derby city centre.
 - He swung the tool at advertising boards before a member of the public rugby‑tackled him and PCSOs pinned him to the ground.
 - While being restrained and after arrest, he hit and kicked officers, lunged and bit an officer’s leg during a cell search, headbutted an officer’s leg, and spat at another.
 - He pleaded guilty to five counts of assaulting emergency workers and was sentenced on October 21 at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates’ Court to 27 weeks in prison.
 - Derbyshire Constabulary highlighted the response as an example of the risks officers face, with Sergeant Mark Sharma praising how quickly the threat was contained.
