SpaceX Wins Five, ULA Two in $1.14 Billion Space Force Launch Awards

The latest NSSL Phase 3 Lane 2 assignments prioritize certified rockets for high-assurance missions scheduled no earlier than fiscal 2027.

Overview

  • Space Systems Command awarded SpaceX $714 million for USSF-206/WGS-12, USSF-155, NROL-86, USSF-149 and USSF-63, and ULA $428 million for NROL-88 and USSF-88 carrying GPS IIIF-4.
  • These seven mission assignments are the second round under NSSL Phase 3 Lane 2, which buys the most demanding national security launches with awards made years ahead for integration.
  • Four of SpaceX’s five missions require Falcon Heavy, with USSF-149 on Falcon 9, while both ULA missions will fly on Vulcan per Space Systems Command.
  • Contract figures imply an average of roughly $143 million per SpaceX launch versus about $214 million for ULA, highlighting a notable per-launch price gap for government missions.
  • Blue Origin received no assignments because New Glenn is not yet certified, with eligibility to compete for fiscal 2027 missions after further certification flights expected later this fall.
