Spacecraft Departures from ISS: Cygnus Scheduled for Dec 22, Dragon Delayed Due to Weather

Cygnus to perform secondary payload operations before re-entry, Dragon returning with over 4,300 pounds of supplies and experiments.

  • Northrop Grumman's uncrewed Cygnus NG-19 spacecraft is set to undock from the International Space Station (ISS) on December 22, after spending 4.5 months at the orbiting complex.
  • The Cygnus spacecraft brought up 8,200 pounds of hardware, supplies, science, commercial products and other cargo to the ISS.
  • The exact date for Cygnus' return to Earth has not been released, but it will perform undisclosed 'secondary payload operations' before it is commanded in early January to plunge into Earth's atmosphere, where it will burn up with trash on board.
  • The SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft, which has been docked to the station since November 11, was slated to undock on December 20, but due to weather, it is now scheduled to depart on December 21.
  • Dragon will carry back to Earth more than 4,300 pounds of supplies and scientific experiments designed to take advantage of the space station’s microgravity environment.
