Space Force Finalizes 15-Year Blueprint as ‘Vector’ Sets Near-Term Warfighting Tasks

Saltzman says the 15-year ‘objective force’ plan nears completion for an early 2026 stakeholder release.

Overview

  • Gen. Chance Saltzman said the objective force work will be finished by the end of December, then move through secretary-level approvals before release to stakeholders in early 2026.
  • The 15-year roadmap is designed to give Congress, industry and partners a stable demand signal, detailing required systems, personnel and infrastructure by mission area.
  • The blueprint builds on Space Warfighting Analysis Center modeling and will be a living document with five-year refreshes and annual updates tied to budgets and program decisions.
  • Published Nov. 14, the Space Force Vector consolidates doctrine, affirms the service’s warfighting identity, and organizes roles across force design, development, generation and employment using Space Mission Task Forces.
  • Near-term tasks in the Vector include operationalizing the Commercial Space Strategy, digitizing acquisition and development, improving testing and validation, boosting launch tempo and integrating part-time Guardians by July 2026.
