Soybean and Corn Planting Stall in Argentina as Wheat Yields Surge

Flooding narrows the soybean planting window, raising the risk of unplanted hectares despite record wheat yields.

Overview

  • Soybean sowing covers 24.6% of the projected 17.6 million hectares, running 11 percentage points behind last year, with access problems in Buenos Aires due to excess moisture, according to the BCBA.
  • In the core farm belt, about one million hectares of first-crop soy remain unplanted as the optimal window closes, the BCR reported.
  • Maize planting stands at 37.3% with one of the largest recent delays, and 12% of planted area shows water excess that hampers fertilization and fieldwork.
  • Wheat harvest is progressing with yields above previous highs in central areas, and the BCBA maintains a national output forecast near 24 million tonnes.
  • Despite a third straight decline in Chicago, cash soy in Rosario rose ARS 5,000 on currency moves and local demand, while agro export dollar inflows are seen slowing to about US$2.6 billion in Nov–Dec even as 2025 totals are projected near US$34 billion.
