Overview
- The IMD says the southwest monsoon will reach Delhi by June 24, three days ahead of the normal June 27 onset.
- Yellow alerts in Delhi and orange alerts for eight states warn of heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 22 to 26.
- Light to moderate showers with thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in Delhi on June 22 and 23, with maximum temperatures running 1–3°C below normal.
- The monsoon has advanced over Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Kashmir and much of Jammu and is poised to push into the North Arabian Sea, Rajasthan and parts of Uttar Pradesh.
- Rainfall has cooled Delhi’s highs, improved its air quality to satisfactory and set Kolkata up for daily showers and thunderstorms through June 27.
