Overview

  • The India Meteorological Department expects the monsoon to advance into Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha within two days and reach northwest India during June 19–25
  • Coastal Maharashtra, including Raigad and Ratnagiri, is under red and orange alerts as Konkan and Goa brace for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and gusty winds through June 15
  • An active monsoon phase over south peninsular India through June 17 will bring heavy to very heavy showers with isolated extremely heavy downpours and thunderstorms
  • Heatwave conditions over North and Northwest India, including Delhi and the Western Himalayan region, are forecast to abate with temperatures dropping 2–3 °C over the next two days
  • In Britain, yellow thunderstorm warnings remain in place after more than 30,000 lightning strikes, though showers are expected to ease by Sunday ahead of a drier spell next week
