- City officials named the victims as Joy Rogers, 64, of Southport; Solomon Banjo, 36, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Michael Durbin, 56, of Galena, Ohio.
- Five other people were injured in the attack, and officials said they remained hospitalized as of Wednesday.
- Investigators say the assault was highly premeditated, alleging the gunman opened fire from a boat off the American Fish Company deck using a .300 Blackout Sig Sauer rifle with a suppressor and scope; a .380 handgun was also recovered.
- Nigel Max Edge, 40, was arrested about 30 minutes after the shooting at an Oak Island boat ramp with help from the U.S. Coast Guard, and he is charged with three counts of first-degree murder plus multiple attempted-murder and assault counts.
- Prosecutors cited newly reviewed cellphone video indicating an aborted attempt the night before, and noted Edge’s Marine service, traumatic brain injury and reported PTSD; a probable-cause hearing is set for Oct. 13.
