Southport Air Show Opens With Heightened Security, Traffic Controls and Earlier Saturday Start

Heightened security accompanies an earlier Saturday timetable after forecasts of heavy rain.

Overview

  • Organisers moved Saturday’s flying 30 minutes earlier to a 12:00 start to get ahead of forecast downpours and gusty winds.
  • Police will run visible and plain‑clothes operations with entry searches, and attendees who breach rules can be removed or prosecuted.
  • Drones are banned within the event’s restricted airspace and other prohibited items include knives, fireworks, lasers, smoke canisters and transmitting devices.
  • Road closures around Marine Drive began on August 27 for static displays and extend across the weekend to Fairway and Weld Road roundabouts, with Ocean Plaza accessible via Marine Way Bridge.
  • The Red Arrows will not appear due to overseas commitments, with replacements including the A‑26 Invader, L‑39 Albatros and DH Vampire, alongside displays such as RAF Typhoon, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the RAF Falcons.
