Southeastern Grocers to Rebrand as The Winn-Dixie Company, Refocus on Florida

The grocer is refocusing on Florida through divestitures to streamline operations.

Overview

  • The company will transition ownership of most stores outside Florida, covering 32 Winn-Dixie and eight Harveys locations in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, with store closings by year-end and transfers completed early next year.
  • Following these transactions, it expects to operate about 130 conventional grocery stores and 140 freestanding or adjacent liquor stores in Florida and southern Georgia, with Anthony Hucker remaining chairman and CEO.
  • Southeastern finalized the acquisition of three Hitchcock’s Markets in Alachua, Keystone Heights and Williston, which will convert to Winn-Dixie with Williston opening in early December 2025 and the other two by summer 2026.
  • Winn-Dixie will retain a footprint in south Georgia in Brunswick, Folkston, Lake Park, St. Simons Island and Valdosta.
  • Planned investments include dozens of remodels and new stores in Florida, liquor-store expansion, growth of private-label products, the return of Lip Lickin’ Chicken, and pilots for third‑party delivery and return kiosks.
