Southbound I-5 Between SR-52 and Mission Bay Drive Closed This Weekend
Caltrans says this is the final major weekend shutdown in the Pacific Beach–Clairemont segment before a holiday pause.
Overview
- All southbound lanes close from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday between SR-52 and the Mission Bay Drive onramp.
- Caltrans directs drivers to detour via I-805 to SR-163 to I-8 to reconnect with I-5 south.
- Northbound traffic remains open, and southbound MTS bus routes and trolley service continue without interruption.
- This is the fourth and last of the major weekend closures in the area, with a few smaller evening full closures expected near Gilman Drive in the coming weeks.
- The work is part of the I-5 Asset Management Project, a just-under $114 million rehabilitation funded by nearly $103 million in federal dollars and continuing through 2027.
