Southampton Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Aldi Knife Attack

Hampshire Constabulary has remanded 46-year-old Azzedvie Mahmoudi in custody as it appeals for witnesses after confirming no wider risk to the community.

  • Azzedvie Mahmoudi faces three counts of attempted murder, one count of attempted grievous bodily harm and multiple charges for threatening or possessing a blade in public.
  • He was remanded to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning following his arrest outside the Aldi on Bevois Valley Road.
  • Three people suffered non-serious injuries when the attacker brandished a kitchen knife at around 12:48pm on Sunday.
  • Instructors and students from Limitless Martial Arts, led by Sohail Chowdhary, intervened to distract the assailant and guide bystanders to safety.
  • Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam or phone footage to come forward to support their enquiry.
